Elon Musk

There are many ways in which you can describe Elon Musk – the real-life Tony Stark, co-founder of PayPal, contributor to the policy framework of the US government and a dreamer of interplanetary travel. The more you read about Elon Musk, the more you realize that here is one man who lives the life cerebral, comes up with the most fantastic ideas and plans and puts them all into action and completely changes the way technology is used. One thing for sure, he seems to be taking effortless pride in disrupting the way industry and technology work in many spheres.

Born in 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa, Musk went on to co-found PayPal many years ago. After selling this company in 2002, Musk went on to establish SpaceX the very same year and every 2 years thereafter until the year 2006, he founded Tesla Motors and SolarCity. Between these 3 companies and his work at large, Musk continues to shift the paradigms every single time when it comes to deploying technology for social and economic welfare.

So what is new you may ask. Aren’t there enough billionaires and business powerhouses doing the same thing? Well, not really, because Elon Musk is talking about creating homes on Mars for people to live in. He has also brought out an electric car which is, again, a game changer. His vision for providing solar panels is truly about being an immensely aware eco-citizen. Perhaps the most interesting thing about his business philosophy is the fact that he is able to dream on a mammoth scale and then deploy technology to fructify these dreams.

He must be doing something right because his company, SpaceX is looking at raising even more investment; anywhere to the tune of $200 million. Despite the fact that it is a space transportation company and has come close to failure in the past, investors are still looking at it with extreme seriousness. In partnership with NASA, SpaceX looks all set to put Musk on Mars as well. An unmanned rocket, called Dragon, docked with the International Space Station, the first private and unmanned vehicle to do so. Dragon belongs to SpaceX. Childhood dreams and a lot of passion have seen Musk create his empire.

In an industry that is so very condescending (to put it mildly) about electric cars, Elon Musk and his utter fearlessness resulted in building the Model S. With his trademark lightness of spirit and bullheaded determination, watch him talk about simply moving on with projects:

So what makes Elon Musk, well, Elon Musk? What makes him take things and stand them on their head and come up with products and dreams that has people worshipping him? Perhaps it is a simple philosophy of “If something is important enough you should try even if the probable outcome is failure.” Maybe it is also the fact that he looks at failure as something necessary to propel innovation. But maybe most of all, it is his willingness and drive to be a completely destructive force when it comes to established norms of technology and being a true Iron Man when it comes to applying in the world at large.
