June 12th. 4 weeks. Hublot

If ever there is one sporting event that has the entire world looking at countdown timers – then it has to be the FIFA World Cup. June 12th is when the first match between Brazil and Croatia kicks off at one of the 12 venues in Brazil – Arena Corinthians. 4 weeks later, this mega event will draw to a grand finale at the Estadio do Maracanã stadium. Through this time period, it will be Hublot playing a fabulous role as official timekeeper. While there are plenty of watch companies that are associated with sports, Hublot has 2 great footballing ambassadors in Pelé, José Mourinho and this is one of the biggest reasons why this company is a natural choice when it comes to timekeeping for the FIFA World Cup, Brazil.

Hublot and Pele

Interestingly, Hublot is the first luxury brand to get associated with the world of football. In order to celebrate everything Brazil, Hublot has done many things unique. Starting with the UNICO Bi-Retrograde Chronograph. This watch is the official watch for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and for Hublot, it represents a ‘first of its kind’ wristwatch. This watch is the product of 18 months of research and the bi-retrograde movement is singular indeed. Hublot has filed for a patent since it is the only movement of its kind in the watchmaking industry. Of course, the looks of this watch is uniquely Brazil – with its collection of superlative bright colors! The watch was unveiled by Pelé just a while ago.

There are a few special watches that have come from the Hublot stable to mark Brazil FIFA. There is also a lot of close integration between the football culture of Brazil and its various personalities. The Hublot Big Bang Official Watch of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is being called ‘Soccer Bang’ very affectionately. The Classic Fusion Chrono Aero Pelé is limited to 500 timepieces. There is also a King Power Pelé Tourbillon. The 2014 FIFA watches have a very distinctive football look and have been created by Romero Britto, an artist from Brazil. Aptly titled ‘Art of Fusion’, these watches do indeed reflect the slogan of FIFA 2014, ‘All in one rhythm.’

Oscar Niemeyer a fabulous architect from Brazil has designed the Hublot Official countdown clocks. 3 such clocks have been installed in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasilia. The project was led by the late Niemeyer in 2011. Hublot is associated with plenty of icons and José Mourinho is one of them. Considering that he is also nicknamed The Special One, this is an exceptional feather in the Hublot cap.

At the end of the day, Hublot is definitely going to help FIFA World Cup Brazil become yet another event that we all will remember with excitement and nostalgia, regardless of the teams that we support. For this massive Swiss brand, June, 2014 will be a goal well met.
