The Astounding Traits Of An Entrepreneur
Authored by: Dave

Everywhere you look you will find an entrepreneur! Guess that is pretty easy because an entrepreneur is constantly conquering new ground everywhere! Spheres such as technology, health, information, design, retail and so on have all seen some magnificent entrepreneurial and leadership stories unfold. What drives these people? What makes them reach into something that ordinary people look at every day and pull out a winning idea?

Being a team of 1

An entrepreneur never really needs too many people around him or her in order to make a difference in the world. If they have an idea, they work tirelessly towards making it a reality. Self-motivation and solving problems and even addressing challenges can all happen by harnessing their own expertise and interest.

Take the case of writer J.K.Rowling. This British novelist is best known for her Harry Potter series of books. But before she was famous, she struggled with being a single mother and being jobless. Watch her talk about failure and imagination in her inimitable entertaining way.

Having an idea that works

A lot of people can come up with outrageous, eccentric and brilliant ideas. But in order to be successful, an entrepreneur should always look at his ideas through the critical lens of reality.  One person who exemplifies this is Mark Zuckerberg, cofounder of Facebook. His idea was to enhance social networking while he was at Harvard but he took it to a completely different level in taking Facebook global. Take a look at his vision in the video below.

Being savvy

Being successful also means being very realistic and smart about managing your time, finances and resources. This is especially true when it comes to financial management. An entrepreneur rarely has big backing of any sorts when it comes to financials.  For instance, Eric Migicovsky, creator of the iconic Pebble watch, did not manage to pull in big investments. He finally had to turn to Kickstarter, the funds raising website. Of course, he raised $10.27 million within a very short time of being on Kickstarter. Check out how he blurred the lines between phone and watch.

It is never really about money

An entrepreneur is also characterized by the ability to go above and beyond the narrow constraints of doing things solely for making profits. Salman Khan of the Khan Academy is one example of this trait. Khan is an educator who has founded the online educational platform which is reaching out to children in regions which do not have access to regular schooling. Khan is reaching children all over the world.

Harnessing the power of technology

An entrepreneur is also not afraid to use the power of technology to make almost impossible dreams come true.  Elon Musk, known best for founding SpaceX and Tesla Motors. His work focuses on manufacturing space launch vehicles. Musk is also trying to spearhead the Hyperloop transportation system. Look at the uber innovative plans he has to use technology.

Philanthropy

An entrepreneur may not always have the money to begin but the fact that he or she wants to make a difference in the world and not simply restrict to earning money makes philanthropy an essential trait as far as entrepreneurs are concerned. Probably one person who exemplifies this attitude the best is Oprah Winfrey. Born into abject poverty, Winfrey today is known as the woman who has given away upwards of $400 million to further the cause of education. Look how she talks about her life and the spirit of giving.

Thinking out-of-the-box

Sure, everybody talks about lateral thinking and being creative. But it takes an entrepreneur of the stature of Richard Saul Wurman to create a phrase, a civilization and world changing attitude with ‘information architecture’.  Wurman is the force behind the amazing world of TED conferences. He has this unique attitude towards conferences:

There are so many other entrepreneurs such as Cher Wang of HTC and Jack Dorsey who created Twitter. All their lives teach us about what it takes to be a universal force of nature, namely an entrepreneur.
